In 1962, I 'went freelance', supplying artwork to design groups and publishers in central London. My best known client being the world's first and foremost weekly medical journal, The Lancet. After 18 years as the sole supplier of charts, maps, diagrams and other work requiring close attention to a weekly deadline for them, I was replaced by a computer. A common story.
A lean period followed, until in 1997 I was asked to draw a prizewinning motorcycle. I've been drawing classic bikes and selling the prints ever since.
I am reputed to be a 'perfectionist'. I'm almost proud of that. I certainly like things to be right. "Good enough" is not good enough!
